Launching a new site

I just launched a new website, Des Moines Special Needs Parents. Another parent of a special needs child who works at Tracy's hospital gave me the resource content and offered to add more. I really enjoy web development. It took me a couple of weeks to get my programming environment running and remember enough syntax to get the site built, but I got it up to production quality last night and published it live.

I am happier with this project than I have been with any before. I am learning how to incorporate more professional tools like stock photography and Photoshop graphic design templates into my work. I am excited by the way I can very reasonably purchase the skills of others to compliment the areas I am skilled in.

Please let me know what you think of the site. I am interested in getting feedback.

Really nice looking site, Bill.

Thanks Chuck. You know more about the internet than most anyone I know. I appreciate your affirmation.

It looks good Bill! I can imagine it will fill a real need as well. Where did you get the images?

It looks very professional--well done.

Thanks Bret and John. I licensed the images at Istockphoto.com. They are about $1.50 each for web use. I built the site as if I were doing it professionally. I have licenses for all of the graphics and pictures. It cost about $90 to develop including domain name registration, template and photography licensing. The hosting is free for me. I can host an unlimited number of sites with my hosting account.

I do use about $450 worth of non-commercial versions of software to develop. If I were to start charging, I'd be obligated to pay another $1000 for full commercial software licenses. I like doing this gratis for non-profits, so I expect I will stay away from the hassles of being paid.
