Hand spamming loan websites

Apparently someone thinks they can build their page rankings by putting ads in comments in really old posts on my site. Here is an example, with the offending link removed so as not to benefit them.
I think that to receive the loans from creditors you should have a good motivation. However, one time I have received a sba loan, because I wanted to buy a bike.

Be warned spammers, I remove spam links within a day. It is not worth your time entering comments by hand on my site.

Shop Online, Save the Planet

I do a lot of shopping online. It is by far my preferred means of buying things we don't get on our regular grocery trips to Costco and Supertarget. For a while now, I have been concerned that it was more energy intensive to have UPS trucks driving individual products up to our door. I decided to check it out this afternoon, and it turns out, it uses 35% less energy to buy it online than it does to buy it at a store. Here is the report from Carnegie Mellon:
A new study out of Carnegie Mellon University finds that shopping online instead of going to a retail store cuts CO2 emissions. The research, performed by the university's Green Design Institute, found that shopping online via comparison shopping site Buy.com uses 35 percent less energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions than what is produced in the traditional retail shopping model....

The three largest contributors to energy consumption and CO2 emissions include customer transport for traditional retail, packaging, and last mile delivery to customer homes for e-commerce. Approximately 65 percent of total emissions generated by the traditional retail model stemmed from the customer getting to and from the retail store. For e-commerce, packaging and last mile delivery were responsible for approximately 22 percent and 32 percent of the ecommerce energy usage, respectively.

Launching a new site

I just launched a new website, Des Moines Special Needs Parents. Another parent of a special needs child who works at Tracy's hospital gave me the resource content and offered to add more. I really enjoy web development. It took me a couple of weeks to get my programming environment running and remember enough syntax to get the site built, but I got it up to production quality last night and published it live.

I am happier with this project than I have been with any before. I am learning how to incorporate more professional tools like stock photography and Photoshop graphic design templates into my work. I am excited by the way I can very reasonably purchase the skills of others to compliment the areas I am skilled in.

Please let me know what you think of the site. I am interested in getting feedback.

Forced Sabbath from the iPhone

Lost my iPhone for a day. It was not so hard to be without it. It was hard to accept that I would have to cough up $400 to replace it. Tracy found it tonight in Asher's room. Apparently it fell off the holster when I was putting Asher to bed last night.

I am thankful it is back. I wouldn't mind having a break from it. I am glad I do not have to buy another one.

I would write to you about my new Iphone, but I am too busy learning everything I can about it.

Iphone 3g

Tracy and I are interested in getting Iphones. They look pretty cool. My plan doesn't end until next week so I am just reading up on them.

Dreamhost fails again

For four hours this afternoon Dreamhost updated my server, broke the DNS files and redirected my site to marmalade girl. What a horror. I have been with dreamhost for 10 years now. They are not the company they were when I first joined. If your site is mission critical, do not use dreamhost. Through peculiar errors they have brought down my site repeatedly these last few years.

We Are Back

I am sorry that my site was down for a week. My webhost lost all of my data while I was at Family Camp and I could not restore the site until I got back home.

Ekhardt.com is back, though. Overlooking this glitch, this site has been up and running since 1999 and I fully expect it to be running continuously for the next 30 years. I am going to be talking to Dreamhost about some things they can do on their end to be sure this never happens again.

Sorry again for the absence of our web presence.
